About the Conference

The National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management, the Society of Integrated Coastal Management, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India, the World Bank, and the Global Ocean Forum are organizing the International Conference on Integrated Coastal Zone Management: Lessons Learned and Relevance for India in which experts from a number of nations will be presenting lessons learned, issues and opportunities in the implementation of ICZM in their respective countries, especially regarding:


  • Federal-state-local institutional approaches in complex federal systems,
  • Financial sustainability, and
  • Capacity development.


The International Conference will provide an opportunity for policymakers at the national and state level in India to interact and share experiences with experts from outside and within the country and region. The International Conference aims to highlight issues and options that are of relevance to India and to take stock of and inform the next phase of India’s ICZM program.


Conference participants will include policymakers in India at the national, state and local levels and selected international experts from a range of countries and regions including the United States, East Asian Seas region, Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, Japan, and the European Union.


NCSCM and SICOM would explore opportunities for networking among the international experts and state/local ICZM practitioners during the conference in order to establish long-term linkages. A Networking Event will be organized during the Reception on Day 1 and also on Day 3.
