BEACH MONITORING LAB

Monitoring of water quality is critical to safeguard the tourist from any health impacts such as diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash, or eye infection. In order to achieve high standards of bathing water quality and to ensure environmental safety for beach tourists, surface water samples from selected beaches of India are periodically collected and analyzed at the Beach Monitoring Lab. International standards (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) are followed to assess the beach water quality. Data generated is used to plan environmental management and to provide environmental education. Water quality criteria recommended by CPCB, designated for bathing, contact water sports (SW-II) are used for assessing the beach water quality to safeguard the tourists by providing prompt public notification of water contamination.
