Exposure Visit of TNAS Postgraduate Students to NCSCM
On 9 June 2025, a group of 27 postgraduate students from the Tamil Nadu Academy of Sciences (TNAS) Summer Internship Programme visited the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai. The visit aimed to provide young scholars—particularly those from rural backgrounds with meaningful exposure to advanced scientific research environments and to encourage them to pursue careers in science, technology, and environmental research.
During the programme, students were introduced to NCSCM’s vision, mission, and multidisciplinary research activities in areas such as coastal ecosystem conservation, marine biodiversity, climate change adaptation, and sustainable coastal management. The visit featured guided tours of key laboratories, including Ecotoxicology, Hydrochemistry, Coastal Ecology, Microbiology & Biotechnology, and Plankton Ecology, where students observed analytical techniques, laboratory demonstrations, and field-related research methods.
The interaction with NCSCM scientists provided valuable academic insights and motivated students to explore research-oriented higher studies. Students expressed enthusiasm for the hands-on exposure and appreciated the opportunity to experience real-time research settings beyond classroom learning. The visit strengthened scientific curiosity among the participants and reinforced NCSCM’s commitment to fostering future researchers and promoting scientific outreach across Tamil Nadu.
